Before you receive a quote from any other floor refinisher ask if they use a bagless hosed system dust containment system that extracts all the sanding and screening dust from your home while the sanding equipment is running. We Don't Sub-Contract:We also fully contract all of our work with trained mechanics from our staff. In other words, we NEVER sub-contract out to laborers. Unlike some other flooring companies who may offer disproportionately low prices in comparison to the local industry, we don't set up work with our customers and then hand the work off to someone else. This requires US to be responsible for all the work in your home. From quality to materials, to safety, we are accountable for everything related to the work in your home. The liability and compensation loophole used by sub-contracting to illegitimate mechanics should be avoided by all homeowners hiring a specialty tradesman. Obviously a homeowner should not be legally liable for a worker causing or being injured in their home!
Our Mechanics:We DO NOT UTILIZE UNTRAINED "STREET CORNER" DAY LABORS as mechanics. The rampant use of an unregistered workforce on Long Island is not only illegal, but we believe goes against America's traditions. Granted, while many undocumented workers are simply looking to earn a living, be assured the employees that enter inside YOUR HOME have registered legal home addresses, United States social security cards, and NYS driver licenses on file with us.
ALL OF OUR MECHANICS SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY. To promote efficiency, promote safety and communicate with our customers, Inter-County Flooring has instituted the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Title VII "English Only" rule. Our fluently English speaking workforce provides the "effective performance required for conducting business" with our customers who abide in America.
Our mechanics will be able to assist you with and address any questions regarding your floor installation or refinishing process, choices of stains and polyurethanes, and many other frequently asked questions. The last thing an American English speaking homeowner needs is a 'communication problem' with a mechanic who can't speak their language but has been entrusted to provide them with a service in their home.
We are proud to state that currently ALL of our trained mechanics have been employed by Inter-County for a minimum of 15 years. At Inter-County Floor Sanding we feel that our employee’s morale is maintained at a high standard by providing quality trade positions, a stable work environment, and concern for their overall well being. Licensed and Insured:We carry home improvement contracting licenses with both the Nassau and Suffolk Departments of Consumer Affairs. In both of these county offices, we have NO complaints against us.
Do be cautious of "fly-by-night" contractors who fail to carry this mandated legal requirement.
Both Nassau and Suffolk require contractors to have insurance in order to obtain a home improvement license. Without proof of a license, there is no proof of insurance.
What if a worker was injured in your home? You may be sued for medical costs if an illegal business does not carry worker's compensation insurance for their employees. What if unexpected or negligent damage occurred to your property by an illegal business? Good luck trying to collect. You would have an uphill battle if there is no insurance carrier to file a claim with.
A home improvement license is an absolute necessity for a homeowner's peace of mind when they allow workers into their homes.
As required by both of these agencies to obtain licenses within their counties, we carry worker's compensation insurance, and $1,000,000.00+ liability insurance coverage. If you would like a free proof of insurance certificate listing you as an additionally insured under our policy, prior to us starting ANY work, please feel free to ask for one when scheduling an appointment.
Commercial customers and general contractors who require proof of NYS worker's compensation insurance coverage may also receive a free certificate as well from our carrier.

No Down Payment?:On the vast majority of our sanding and refinishing jobs quoted for less than $2000.00, we simply DO NOT ask for ANY MONEY upfront. Upon completion of a signed contract with our homeowners, we will do ALL of the work - all labor, all sanding, all staining, and all polyurethaning - all from start to finish, and THEN ask for the payment for our services.* You will be given the chance to see our professionalism and expertise first hand BEFORE you pay. AFTER the completion of our contractual obligation with our clients we then request payment in full on the last day of work at your home.
